I was previously a lecturer at the University of Liverpool, possess a masters degree in sport psychology, have worked in cardiac rehabilitation, presented at national conferences and was personal trainer at the Hilton hotel in Regent Street, London. I worked at one of the largest PT studio chains in the world in Sydney, Australia and I have run my own studio and mobile PT business in Spain.
With thousands of hours of experience as a Personal Trainer, helping clients to get clear, get confident and take back control in their lives, my Personal Training School founded in 2005 accomplishes exactly the same helping students take back control of their lives and master their new chosen profession, personal training.

When it comes to metabolism, this is absolutely essential. Here’s why. Our metabolism slows from our late twenties and thirties onwards and if we diet, especially on a low fat or low calorie diet, we slow it further. And when our hormones get messed up, usually because of repeated dieting, we really do need to fire it back up to have any chance of significant and lasting weight loss.

In relation to nutrition and, of course, exercise, contrary to popular belief the role of exercise is NOT to burn calories. And the purpose of a “diet” is NOT to restrict calorie intake.

You see, a calorie is a calorie is a calorie is old thinking. The name of the game is not simply calorific deficit. For years people have quoted the first law of thermodynamics that energy cannot be created or destroyed but converted from one form to the other and therefore all we need to do is eat less and do more and we will lose weight.
But you know this is not true. And it is not.

I can tell you this is only part of the story. You see the second law of thermodynamics, conveniently overlooked for decades, relates to the fact the actual food (specifically macronutrients) in which calories are consumed directly affects how they are metabolised in the body.
more than just calorie counting
So when we consume say 100 calories of carbohydrate we end up with almost 100 calories of energy in the body (not quite 100, as some calories are used to convert food like bread into glucose or blood sugar).
But when we consume 100 calories of protein or fat, for example, the cost to convert chicken (a protein source) or avocado (a fat source) into amino acids (usable protein) and fatty acids (usable fat) is high leaving much less calories left over.

Things are not as they might seem. For example, consider the simple fact we need to eat fat to lose fat. When we consume enough omega 3 fish oils for example we will accelerate results. But how much omega 3 is in your diet?
Controlling insulin is also an essential component of our scientific approach since when insulin is low another hormone glucagon is high and
glucagon is our fat burning friend.

I can’t cover everything here but can offer another example. Of course fruit is healthy, but a large banana has perhaps 40g of carbohydrates and yet a whole punnet of strawberries has only 4g. So we even need to be strategic when it comes to eating fruit if fat loss is the goal.

I can’t wait to teach you exactly what you need to do to lose weight and keep it off and feel absolutely fabulous in the process. Suffice to say eating healthily is not the same as eating for optimal fat loss and the distinction is key to your future success.
We will create an eating plan that is enjoyable, sustainable and effective and you will learn how to eat and exercise to boost your metabolism and accelerate results.

You get all your meals provided so that you don’t need to worry about eating right. You won’t starve to death either, far from it, you will enjoy your food and experience that restriction and deprivation is not the way. Everything is kept simple so you can continue things after you leave us.
You get daily exercise tailored to your ability designed to accomplish 2 things: firstly to raise your metabolic rate (so you burn fat whilst you sleep) and secondly to help you feel confident and competent in doing the right exercise for you, so that you can continue afterwards.
You get to complete three amazing workshops and supermarket tour designed to create a mindset for success and teach you how to stay in control, most of the time.
PS It is more than OK to enjoy a drink, indulge in “naughty” treats, and even feel down in the dumps from time to time, and even enjoy food to pick you up. The objective is not to be perfect. The objective is achieve sustainable results but retain balance in your life.
THE 4 DAY RETREAT - What's included?

The outcome I think we all seek is to find the right balance so that we can feel in control again, back in the driving seat in our lives. We want to feel fit and strong, and confident that we are no longer controlled by diet, frustrations with our weight or uncomfortable in our own skin. Feeling depressed with low self-esteem is no OK.
You will leave our retreat with a personal fitness and nutrition plan to follow at home plus you will benefit from 3 months of ongoing telephone and email coaching after you leave to help make permanent the changes you initiate whilst with us.
You get to do all this is the absolutely idyllic setting here at our wellness retreat exclusively for our guests. This means you can properly relax, certainly not feel at all intimidated about the stay, the exercise component of the programme or being with other guests but can, instead, enjoy your time with us and refuel your batteries a little.
You need to make some serious decisions, create some serious strategies and you need some serious tools to ensure your weight loss and well-being success. And that’s why you need to get away and re-focus.
Our retreat is absolutely gorgeous. You are away from distractions to focus exclusively on you (wow now there’s a first), and you will get more than you could possibly imagine form the experience.
